Home of the MIGHTY Bulldogs
and Marching '101' Band!

Over 101 years of excellence!!!
Since 1896

This is where I received my degree in Music Education - Instrumental. South Carolina State is a historically black college that's been producing top notch teachers, businessmen, lawyers, doctors, nurses, etc. for over 100 years. The school has provided me with experiences that I will keep and use for a lifetime. College is what you make of it, and I used my years at SCSU to the fullest extent. I recommend SCSU to anybody who wants a good education in a nice community.

I am also a product of the Marching 101 band, one of the top bands in the MEAC. During my tenure (1995-1999), the 101 has consistently brought the heat to every band it has come in contact with. Through the 101, I have seen performance by wonderful bands like Norfolk State University, Winston Salem State University, Tennessee State University, and Alabama State University to name a small few. I have learned to arrange under Ronald Sarjeant who will be retiring as SCSU Director of Bands. I think  he is one of the best arrangers in the nation and he will be sorely missed by the band members as well as alumni. I also had the honor of arranging a song for the 1999 Homecoming show. I also studied the trombone and student taught under Tim Hinton Sr. who is the director of bands at Orangeburg-Wilkenson High School. The 101 has produced numerous music educators that are currently involved with music programs all over South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas.

As time goes on, I will display pictures of this band. The 101 also has a nice symphonic, jazz , and pep band. Recently, the band has revived their spring symphonic band clinic and summer band camp in which they have asked me to arrange for. SCSU will continue to provided a positive medium for young musicians to display their talents.

I would also like to welcome the new band director Mr. Ellis and his staff to the Bulldog family. May he carry on the prestige the the band directors before him have set, and take the band to the next level.

These Captions were used in a program for the 2003 Battle of the Bands located in Charleston, South Carolina.
