Blessings Through Praise Bible Lesson

Thou shall not bear false witness – In short, it is not of God to sing on a choir that contains members that you do not like. This gives Satan the chance to work and divide us and prevent us from obtaining our goal in the choir. By opening up and putting the issues in the open will bind us together spiritually – the way God wants us to be.

The set up: When I was attending SC State, I attended a Baptist church that read a series of bible verses after the worship and praise and before the actual church service. It struck a chord with me and I tell it to every young Christian that I come across. The text is in First Corinthians 6:9-20 (read the passage before proceeding) Paul specifically tells the Corinthians who will NOT enter Heaven. Thieves and killers we already know according to the Ten Commandments that we all had to memorize as children in Sunday school. However, what many people fail to tell us is that also, homosexuality (effeminate) and people that practice pre-marital sex (fornicators) cannot enter the kingdom of God.

If some of us have done these things on this list, there is good news. Paul goes on to say, “as such were some of you, but ye are washed.” Paul realized that there were people that succumbed to these sins. Nevertheless, we that have confessed Christ and are washed from these sins.

The hardest thing that we have to face is fornication, so he talks about it for the duration of the passage. The thing I would like to highlight is two words “Flee Fornication.” This is a common pitfall for us everywhere. I think everyone has run away from something before. Paul says that we should run away. If a boy/girl invites you in the house filled with soft music, candles, and incense, that person does not want to play Super Mario Brothers, so why should we go in and be tempted?!?!?!?  Paul tells us to use our bodies as instruments of praise because God, through Jesus, has saved us.

Director’s additions: I haven’t a clue why most of our churches do not talk about sex and homosexuality in the churches.  I have a theory though; children in the previous generation did what adults said without question. Nowadays young people observe and follow what the parents and adults do. We as youth know what’s right and wrong and need to answer to God ourselves. Leading by example, and letting the Jesus in you shine will cause others to draw closer to God. Be a blessing to God, and in turn to your choir members, and other people; it is then that God will bless you.

Next Week: Are we two faced?

Assignment for next week: We discussed the fact that in order to be a spiritual choir that we can be, we need to have a Christian relationship with ALL of our members. So find a member that is not in your section and you do not know and get to know them. Next meeting, I will ask questions about the person you learned about.

Prayer: O Lord, Thank you for sending Jesus to die for us so that we may have another chance to get to heaven. We thank you for your forgiveness and except the challenge of abstaining from the sins that challenge us as young Christians. Strengthen us to withstand the temptations of Satan. In Jesus’ name, amen.
